My Exterior Renovation: Let There Be Light!

I’ve been waiting for this moment. Don’t ask me why. I just have quirky construction timeline moments that really get me excited. It seems like a lot of progress has been made when you can flip a light switch and lights actually come on.

Last night I went out back like I do everyday when I come in from school pickups…and lo and behold I saw that light fixtures had been installed. Of course, I ran to the light switch as everyone naturally would and shouted “Let there be light!” as I flipped the switch. I mean…obviously.

I took this wide shot not to show you the old dead grill they haven’t gotten rid of yet…but to show you all of the glorious outlets around the walls. You’ve heard me say it before: Get plenty of outlets.

In garage #1 we have our basic overheads for bright, shadow free work lighting. And all the deliberately super white paint is doing its job and reflecting as much light as possible.

In the multipurpose space, there are warm recessed lights on dimmers and a bronze ceiling fan for those days when it’s not quite hot enough for the air conditioner.
The outside lighting has arrived as well! It won’t go up until the final stucco and paint are complete but the boxes are all here at the ready.

Lanterns for the front of the garages

Finding this style lantern was important but I also had to search deep for one that was durable. Basketball hoop + teenagers = broken glass. Typically these lanterns have open sides. It took some time, but I found this model with a more protective grille and even better, the seeded glass isn’t real. Seeded glass or seed glass is a throwback to the bubbles and imperfections that were in early sheet glass. It will add a more period look. And since this is really a plexi type material it won’t crack if pounded with the basketballs.  Once hung you will never know it’s not real.

Ok that’s the end of lighting talk for the moment.  I could go on and on…
