Color Stories…

Back on the Brill Project, today was a day of scouring the many fabric stores of LA.  I’m on the hunt for some great fabrics to start the color story dialogue between me and my clients.  I like to start with the fabrics and textiles and THEN select wall colors based on that.  I find that I’m making better choices about how bold or tame the walls should be when I do it in this order.  Either let the fabrics do the talking or let the walls have the glory.

We’re looking at blues, greens and greys for our public spaces.  I’m hoping to mix in some taupes, camel/caramels and ivories for light, balance and contrast.  Right now…it’s a jumble of swatches.  I need time to stare at the many combinations.  Sometimes I photograph my fabrics and wall color together and then I can stare at the picture in the car, on the elevator, in line at the grocery store…wherever I am.  It can also be very good to see what the camera sees that I don’t.

Two variations on my theme:

colorpalette1

Palette #1 – Options for drapery, upholstery, wall colors, etc.

colorpalette2

Palette #2

The other half of my shopping adventure today was not nearly as fruitful.  Tile options.  My usual haunt didn’t have all that great of a selection for some reason.  So…tomorrow morning it’s off to look some more.
